Quotations are unusually vulnerable to repetition without context and to attribution errors that spread across the web. The Save the Quote Editorial Team reviews collections for formatting, duplication and plausible attribution, and adds references when an original work, speech, archive or reliable edition is available.

Even careful collections can inherit old errors. A quotation should not be treated as authenticated merely because it appears online, including here. For academic, journalistic or commercial use, follow the references and confirm the wording in a primary source or a reputable scholarly edition.

Updates and corrections

Content pages display publication and update dates. We correct wording and attribution when better evidence becomes available, and we would rather mark an uncertain quotation honestly than give readers false confidence. References at the end of a page provide context beyond a short list.
